Atlantis Casino in Reno Sees $14 Million Jackpot, Biggest In City History
A lucky woman won herself a life-changing $14 million jackpot on a Megabucks slot machine April 2 at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, Nevada.
That makes her the largest jackpot winner in the city’s history, verified by Megabucks slot developer IGT to the Reno Gazette Journal. The winner was not identified.
This latest person to hit the top prize on the popular jackpot slot series saw her stars align with the win, as she was not even supposed to be at the casino that day.
A cruise ship voyage the lucky guest was booked on was canceled, so she decided to stay an extra day at the Atlantis and hit the reels.
“We’re ecstatic for our longtime Atlantis patron and her incredible jackpot win. This is another amazing milestone to celebrate in our company’s history,” said Cheraz Ecker, manager of the Atlantis.
Megabucks maker IGT also congratulated the winner.
“IGT is thrilled that Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, Nevada could experience the property-wide excitement of a colossal, $14 million-plus Megabucks jackpot on its gaming floor,” said Toni Martinez, the president of Western regions.
Record-Breaking Wins
However big $14 million is, this latest win is far from the largest jackpot prize won on a Megabucks slot in the state of Nevada or the biggest slots jackpot of all-time.
IGT’s popular series produced a $33.97 million jackpot winner at the Excalibur in Las Vegas in 2003, which holds the record for the world’s biggest slots prize.
An unnamed 25-year-old Californian software engineer scooped that jackpot prize, walking out of the casino an instant multimillionaire.
Although it is the biggest prize given at a Reno casino, a resident of the city actually won a bigger jackpot a few miles away. In 2003, Rachael Renee Romanick won $33 million on a Megabucks slot at the Rail City casino in the city of Sparks, Nevada.
The Megabucks series from IGT first debuted way back in 1986 and has been making millionaires at US casinos ever since.
The last person to hit this slot jackpot before the most recent win in Reno was in Las Vegas in 2021. That week, a man identified only as Roger L. won slightly more than $2.9 million. That win was part of a streak at Las Vegas casinos which saw a Mexican tourist visiting Las Vegas scoop a $15 million Megabucks top prize on Christmas Eve.
