Roar Digital, the parent company of BetMGM, got permission to conduct its live testing phase on Wednesday. The entity was ready to launch its product on the same day. Its mobile sportsbook has been available in West Virginia since January this year.
Though the new WV casino is not offering many games, it is still the best in the state for the time being. For now, not more than 30 games are available, most of them slots, including the first linked-jackpot slot in WV.
When DraftKings launched its operations here, its primary focus was table games. It only introduced its own slots lately. BetMGM also provides video poker, the option currently not available at DraftKings.
While speaking on the development, BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt said,
“The addition of the leading iGaming offering in WV is a powerful differentiator for the state. We’re convinced that our superior offering in no time will become the online gaming destination of choice for enthusiasts.”
The players can access BetMGM Casino in a browser for personal computers, besides using it in mobile app form. Moreover, the casino app is available for both Android and iOS devices.
It should be noted that Apple’s latest App Store guidelines have complicated things for gambling companies. So, it often happens that any new online casino launches on other platforms first, and becomes available to iOS users weeks after.
WV, the second state for BetMGM
Roar Digital and BetMGM are a joint venture of casino operator MGM Resorts International and European online gambling entity GVC. Experts express hope for the company that received a massive investment from IAC. However, the expansion process has taken more time than was expected.
West Virginia is just the second market in which MGM has launched its casino. The first state was New Jersey. However, its mobile sportsbook is available in Indiana and Nevada.
Though MGM will soon launch its operations in Pennsylvania, the overall pace has been slower as it has to do so as an out-of-state qualified gaming entity.
In addition, BetMGM should also be among the first online casino to launch in Michigan when it is done with the regulatory glitch and license phase.
Indeed, MGM has the potential to dominate the market as it claims to be such an encompassing brand recognition.
In New Jersey also, BetMGM is the second highest-grossing in the Garden State, after Golden Nugget. According to Eilers & Krejick, BetMGM is the market leader as an individual entity.
Betly Sportsbook opens, William Hill app coming soon
The next few weeks are going to be eventful in West Virginia as two more sportsbooks are setting foot in the market. In fact, Delaware North was the first entity in the game, but only briefly. Within months after its launch, its app, BetLucky, ended up shutting down amid a legal fiasco.
Now, it has resurrected in the state with a new collaborator, Betly, which is powered by IGT.
Of the five casinos in WV, Delaware North owns two of them, Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras. It opened the latter’s retail sportsbook this week, with Wheeling Island to follow the next week. The app will also be launched soon.
William Hill will be the next. The company opened its retail sportsbook at Mountaineer Casino, becoming the third in the state in November 2018.
According to the West Virginia Lottery Commission, the testing will be entered next week. At this moment, it is yet difficult to predict who will be the next casino to launch. Though it may not be the major concern for either William Hill or Betly, it must be for PokerStars and FanDuel. Following DraftKings and BetMGM, they are looking to hit the market as soon as they can. So, it is the matter of regulatory permission, which may not take more than a few months.
