IGT Brings Cashless Technology to Washington Lottery
International Game Technology (IGT) has extended its lottery gaming systems contracts to deploy cashless lottery technology for Washington Lottery. According to the news provided Thursday by the IGT through a press release, Washington becomes the seventh US state to leverage the UK-based gambling company’s cashless lottery solutions.
The renewed agreement extends the global company’s existing contract through June 30, 2029. Washington Lottery and IGT first partnered in 1996.
IGT produces slot machines and other gambling technology and has a local presence in Rhode Island and Las Vegas.
Washington Lottery is the nation’s leader for self-service lottery machines, with 45% of its revenue coming from vending machines. The cashless system will allow players to purchase tickets through debit and credit cards through a digital expansion of the industry.
Details of the New Agreement
As part of the expanded agreement, IGT will implement hardware modifications and software development to outfit as many as 2000 lottery self-service vending machines with cashless functionality.
The updated features will allow Washington’s Lottery players to enjoy lottery products with debit cards on IGT’s GameTouch 28, GameTouch 24, and GameTouch 20 self-service vending machines placed at lottery retailers across the state.
Washington’s Lottery is a national leader in self-service vending machine deployment, the news release said.
Strengthening A 25-Year-Old Partnership
IGT has served as the primary lottery technology supplier to the Evergreen State’s Lottery since 1996.
Washington’s Lottery Director Marcus Glasper said IGT has been a tried and tested partner for the state’s Lottery for more than 25 years. “Throughout that time, IGT has helped us guide the ever-evolving lottery landscape while providing us with innovative solutions to continuously engage new players.”
Glasper further noted the addition of cashless functionality on self-service machines is a new chapter in the partnership between the lottery and IGT. The new agreement will allow users to have a flexible, convenient, and secure way to purchase their favorite lottery games.
Washington’s Lottery Sales Reaching $950 Million
IGT’s Chief Operating Officer, Lottery, Jay Gendron, said the company has a thorough understanding of the growth-driving products and solutions its partner in Washington needs to help reach its business goals.
“Since our current contract started in 2016, we have collaborated with the Lottery to increase its annual sales by 37%, culminating in $950 in total sales for the most recent fiscal year.”
Gendron added that IGT will continue to support the lottery in maximizing its funds toward noble causes while delivering entertaining and responsible experiences for the residents.
Besides self-service lottery machines, IGT also provides the state’s Lottery with its central system, equipment, retail terminals, instant tickets, and field services.
IGT, A Market Leader in US Lottery System
IGT, a global leader in gaming, has a well-established local presence and relationships with governments in more than 100 countries across the world. In the US, the company has major offices in Rhode Island and Las Vegas.
As the lottery market leader in the US, IGT central systems process over 75% of the nation’s lottery sales, as per the release.
