What Do We Know About Mega Millions?

Mega Millions – which began in 1996 as The Big Game – is an American multi-jurisdictional lottery game. It’s played in 44 states, in addition to Washington DC and the Virgin Islands. Each ticket costs $2.

The first drawing began in Sept. 1996, with six states – Virginia, Michigan, Massachusetts, Maryland, Illinois, and Georgia – participating.

Mega Millions drawings take place Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. In the game, five balls are drawn from a set of balls numbered 1 through 70, and The Mega Ball from 1 through 25.

The chances of winning the Mega Millions jackpot is 1 in 302 million.

The minimum Mega Millions jackpot is $40 million, which increases when there’s no top-prize winner.

Largest Mega Millions Jackpot Won in 2021

According to the site, the largest Mega Millions jackpot in 2021 was won in March when a ticket matched all six balls to claim $1.05 billion – the third-largest jackpot in US lottery history.

The winning ticket was sold in Michigan, near Detroit, and the winner could also choose the $739.6 million cash option. It was the 18th time the Mega Millions jackpot was won in the Wolverine State.

The winning numbers drawn on the largest Mega Millions jackpot this year’s January were: 4- 26- 42- 50- 60 and Megaball 24. The Megaplier was 2x.

If you have bought a ticket, it’s advisable to check your tickets immediately, as whatever the odds are, you have an equal chance to hit the jackpot.

In 2019, a winning ticket worth $1 million sold in Hartland went unclaimed as the winner never turned up to claim it. Eventually, the money went to the state’s school aid fund.
