Xpressbet Betting Site Review

Xpressbet is a legal, US-facing pari-mutuel betting platform operated by the Stronach Group. The Stronach Group is one of the leading horse breeders and racetrack owners in the United States. Some of the most famous Stronach-operated tracks include Santa Anita, Gulfstream Park, and Pimlico.

Xpressbet is also the official partner of Preakness Stakes and the Pegasus World Cup.

Welcome Bonus

New Xpressbet customers have three welcome bonus options from which to choose.

– $500 Bonus: Earn $10 for every $100 you bet for up to $500 in bonus cash. This bonus is equivalent to a 10% cashback deal and requires you to wager $5,000 to get the full value.

– $100 Bonus: Earn $100 in bonus cash once you bet $500. This bonus has to be cleared within 90 days and is equivalent to a 20% cashback deal.

– $20 Bonus: Earn $20 in bonus cash once you bet $20. This bonus has to be cleared within 30 days and is equivalent to a 100% cashback deal.

If you want to go for maximum value, we’d recommend picking the bonus that matches your betting patterns and the financial commitment that you’re willing to make. For example, if you’re planning to place only one $20 wager within your first 90 days on the site, picking the $20 bonus is pretty much a no-brainer because Xpressbet will essentially double your deposit as soon as you make your move. Nevertheless, if you choose this option, you won’t get any cashback on your future bets.

Thus, if you’re planning to wager at least $500 within the first 90 days, the $100 bonus will always be the better option. This is because 20% of $500 ($100) is worth more than 100% of $20 ($20) and 0% of $480 ($20). This line of reasoning can also be applied to determine whether you should pick the $500 bonus or the $100 bonus.

Obviously, if you stick to the $500 commitment, the $500 bonus will give you more value. However, once your handle reaches $1,000, both deals become equal, because 10% of $1,000 is equal to 20% of $500. Consequently, if you’re willing to bet at least $1,100 throughout your entire Xpressbet betting career, the $500 bonus will give you more bang for your buck.

Residents of Arizona are prohibited from gambling online, but are allowed to place Xpressbet wagers over the phone. The minimum age to sign up for an Xpressbet account is 18 in most states, although residents of Alabama, Arizona, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, New Hampshire, North Dakota, and Washington need to be at least 21. Xpressbet will ask you for your Social Security Number and some basic personal information to confirm your state of residence and age.

Betting Platform

Xpressbet is predominantly a browser-based betting platform. The site is compatible with most contemporary browsers, including Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Safari. It should be noted that while the platform is guaranteed to work with most desktop computers running Windows 7 or newer and Mac OS X v10.9+, the user interface was obviously designed with mobile devices in mind. When viewed on a large screen, the buttons seem to be slightly too big, and the number of drop-down menus makes the whole app feel somewhat clunky.

As is often the case with mobile-first software, these problems disappear once you swap your monitor for a small or medium-sized touch screen. Furthermore, the site supports three wagering interfaces, which allows you to personalize your betting experience and mitigates some of the aforementioned issues. If you don’t want to bet using your browser, Xpressbet offers a downloadable iOS app for Apple devices. Android users don’t have this option because Google doesn’t host any gambling apps in the official Play Store.

Xpressbet supports most of the wagers offered at the US tracks. This includes single-horse wagers, as well as exotic wagers such as trifecta, superfecta, pick 3, pick 4, pick 5, and pick 6. All of the money wagered through the site is commingled with existing pari-mutuel pools. Xpressbet members can access all basic race information before putting any money on the line, including scratches and changes, live odds, and expert analysis. The site also offers handicapping tournaments, which are described in more detail in the Promotions section of this review.

Xpressbet pays full track odds on every bet placed through the system.

Available Racetracks

Xpressbet members can engage in pari-mutuel betting on more than 300 domestic and international tracks, including world-famous US venues, such as Gulfstream Park, Santa Anita, New York Racing Association, Keeneland, Churchill Downs, and more. Xpressbet does not cover all tracks in America due to contractual restrictions, but it does cover all the high-profile events, including Kentucky Derby, Breeders’ Cup, and  Belmont Stakes. The complete, up-to-date list of Xpressbet-friendly tracks can be accessed via the Xpressbet website via the navigation bar located at the bottom of the page.

It’s worth noting that the Xpressbet menu of betting options is limited to Thoroughbred, Harness, and Quarter Horse races. The site does not cover greyhound racing events. If you’re interested in betting on dog races, we recommend a different US-facing pari-mutuel platform, such as TVG or BetAmerica.

Video Streaming

Xpressbet has recently upgraded its HD video streaming service to improve video quality for live races. The site also has a video replay repository, which can be accessed directly in the race program or from the video library section. Race replays can be browsed by date, horse, or track.

VIP Program

All Xpressbet account holders are automatically enrolled in a tiered, volume-based loyalty program called XB Rewards. All participating handicappers are awarded Rewards Points at the rate of two points for every $1 they wager. In addition, handicappers can earn bonus points based on their Rewards Level, which can be raised by increasing handle volume or wagering frequency.

XB Rewards Points can be redeemed for wagering credit at the rate of $10 per 15,000 points. Please note that while this credit can be used to place bets, it cannot be cashed out right off the bat. XB Rewards Points can also be spent in the Xpressbet Pro Shop to purchase past performances, tournament tickets, racetrack discounts, electronic devices, and VIP experiences. Loyalty points expire for any account inactive for 13 months. The inactivity calendar resets every time you place a wager.

Please note that the mobile app is not compatible with the Pro Shop and does not allow you to check how many Rewards Points you have. If you want to track your progress or redeem your points, you will need to do so via the Pro Shop website through your browser.

Other Promotions

As mentioned above, Xpressbet members can participate in handicapping tournaments to win additional cash prizes for placing bets on high-profile racing events. Registration is always free and wagering requirements tend to be lower than $100. In our opinion, this isn’t a high price for a chance to win a few thousand dollars, especially if you were planning to bet on the race in question anyway.

Other than that, Xpressbet also offers limited-time promotions that provide players with a chance to earn some additional loyalty points or bonus wagering credit. The site also has a Refer a Friend program, which rewards you with a $50 bonus whenever a friend signs up for an Xpressbet account and makes a $100 deposit.

Banking Options

Xpressbet customers can fund their betting accounts over the internet, by phone, and by traditional mail (check/money order). You can also make a deposit in person at an Xpressbet Center at one of their partner tracks, or at an OTB facility that offers Xpressbet services. The availability of certain deposit methods may vary from one location to another, but most members should have access to the following online options:

  • Xpressfund: This option allows you to make an electronic deposit from your checking account. There is no fee for using Xpressfund.
  • Credit/debit card: Xpressbet supports Visa and MasterCard, but it should be noted that certain banks have a policy to decline transactions with legal betting companies.
  • E-wallet: Use PayPal or Neteller to fund your account without waiting.
  • Green Dot: Make a deposit at the register at a Green Dot retail store or use a MoneyPak card.
  • PayNearMe: Create a PaySlip on your printer or smartphone and take it to the local 7-Eleven, CVS, or Family Dollar Store. Please note that the shop will charge you $3.99 for every transaction.

Withdrawals are usually handled via an Xpressfund transfer, but you can also order a check by traditional mail, which should arrive within one business day. E-wallet cash-outs are available for customers who have already used this method to make a deposit to the site.
