FanDuel and BetMGM Tease Super Bowl Commercials
Two of the biggest U.S. sports betting operators will be airing ads at Super Bowl LVIII next month, as Las Vegas will be hosting the big game at the city’s Allegiant Stadium. BetMGM is making its debut halftime commercial appearance, and leading operator FanDuel will be returning after airing an ad last year.
Nevada casinos saw record revenues during November 2023’s Las Vegas Grand Prix, and they will hoping for a similar boost when the biggest football betting event of the year rolls into town next month.
BetMGM has pulled out the stops with its celebrity campaign for this ad, as it did when it hired Jamie Foxx for an ad at the start of the NFL season in September last year. The 2024 Super Bowl ad is set to feature NFL icon Tom Brady, actor Vince Vaughn, and NHL legend Wayne Gretzky.
Meanwhile, FanDuel is going for a round two on its Kick of Destiny campaign from last year. It will see four-time Super Bowl winner Rob Gronkowski attempt a live field goal kick. There’s also a share of $10 million on the line for FanDuel customers who correctly pick the kick’s outcome.
Bet MGM’s Debut Super Bowl Commercial
BetMGM is stepping into the Super Bowl advertising arena for the first time.
In a teaser released on social media this week, Vaughn playfully nudges Brady offscreen, finishing with the campaign’s slogan, “I love the memories we’re making.”
In addition to their high-profile ad, BetMGM is also hosting parties over the Super Bowl weekend. Not only does this leverage MGM’s Las Vegas resort properties to promote its online sports betting brand, but it also brings partygoers into close proximity of its Nevada retail sportsbooks.
“This year’s Big Game is our moment to put BetMGM front and center of the largest audience in sports,” said BetMGM Chief Revenue Officer Matt Prevost.
“Our first Big Game commercial showcases Las Vegas as the home for the game, as well as what we consider to be BetMGM’s home. We couldn’t be happier with the talent we have assembled for the ad, and the connection they have to our brand.”
FanDuel’s Kick of Destiny Redux
FanDuel is bringing back its Kick of Destiny campaign with Rob Gronkowski. But during the ad, he will be joined by WWE star and actor John Cena.
Gronkowski will attempt a field goal during the Super Bowl, a stunt that generated significant buzz last year despite Gronkowski missing the kick. FanDuel said that it would give out $10 million in promo credits if the field goal hit, leading many online to speculate it was somehow rigged.
To counter that, the operator has this year offered a free pick to any FanDuel customer on whether Gronkowski hits the kick or not. Those who pick correctly get a share of the $10 million prize.
In a self-referential advert, Gronkowski will apparently recruit Cena to help him break into FanDuel’s main offices. They hope to convince the operator to give the former NFL icon a second chance at the field goal stunt.
