Online Gambling in Florida

Online gaming is strictly limited in Florida since UIGEA hit hard in the mid-2000s. This, coupled with resistance from the powerful Indian casinos, has meant Florida lags behind other states when it comes to legalizing online gambling.

However, there are still ways to bet online in The Sunshine State. Read our guides to online gambling in Florida:

Indian Gaming Tribes in Florida

Indian casinos in Florida are dominated by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, who operate properties in Tampa, Hollywood, Coconut Creek, and Okeechobee. Gambling Taxes in Florida

The good news is that you pay no state gaming tax if you win at a Florida casino. However, you will be eligible for a federal tax of 24% if your winnings qualify.

If you win over $600 (depending on the game), you will activate a Form W-2G. You must complete the form, but a copy is sent by the casino to the IRS. You will need to declare your winnings when you file your tax return.

Don’t forget that you’ll be issued multiple W-2Gs if you win several big payouts. Also, bear in mind that poker is legal at every Florida casino, and you will be subject to different tax rates for those games.

For instance, you’ll be taxed on winnings of $5,000 or more from poker games (minus your entry). Slots and progressives trigger a W-2G for wins of $1,200 or more.
