MGM Resorts is the Best Military Veteran Employer in Nevada for 2023

Spread the Word:

MGM Resorts International has recently been included in the Military Times Best for Vets: Employers List for 2023. It was the top hospitality operator on the list, and the highest-placed company from Nevada.

This accolade highlights MGM’s ongoing commitment to creating a workplace culture that actively recruits and support veterans, current service members, and their families. It follows their rank 23 position in 2022’s Military Times list, which was won by New York pharma company Bristol Myers Squibb.

MGM, the largest U.S. casino operator, is part of the Veteran Jobs Mission, a coalition of companies that aims to employ one million former U.S. military personnel. It also hosts an annual Salute to the Troops event, which takes 100 injured veterans on comped luxury weekend packages at MGM Resorts’ Nevada casinos in Las Vegas, and it is the ongoing sponsor of the yearly Las Vegas Veterans Day Parade.

Outside of those in need of dedicated support programs, MGM also offers a special veterans’ rewards program called MVP MGM. This gives extra discounted rates, perks, and benefits to the holders above those offered by the usual MGM Rewards program.

“MGM Resorts is proud to honor the commitment and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans, service members, and their families, underscoring our steadfast dedication to fostering a culture of inclusion,” said Jyoti Chopra, chief people, inclusion, and sustainability officer, in a company press release.

“We are unwavering in our efforts to extend support, resources, and career opportunities to those who have courageously defended our liberties and fundamental human rights.”

The Military Times List

The Military Times’ Best for Vets List is a reputable list that veterans frequently consult when transitioning from military to civilian life.

Employers are evaluated based on their policies and practices related to military veterans.

In Nevada, MGM stands as the highest-ranked business. It also took the top spot among the broader hospitality sector across the U.S.

This achievement is attributed to MGM’s dedicated professional development programs aimed at recruiting military personnel and supporting their career advancement within the company.

MGM’s Veteran-Focused Initiatives

A key aspect of MGM’s commitment is its active support through employee network groups that connect military veterans. These groups serve as platforms for shared experiences, mentorship, and career development.

MGM Resorts also hosts the annual Salute to the Troops event in Las Vegas, done in collaboration with the USO and American Airlines. This celebration, which took place at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in 2023, honors more than 100 active-duty armed forces members who have been injured in service.

The 100 veterans are given free luxury accommodation at Mandalay Bay, as well as a packed four-day weekend of Las Vegas experiences. In 2023, that included a celebratory dinner, a welcome parade, free tickets to iconic Sin City shows, and organized trips to see famous nearby sights, such as Red Rock Canyon and Hoover Dam.

“Our gratitude for the armed forces is immeasurable. We consider it our privilege to offer these extraordinary men and women a taste of the exceptional hospitality that MGM Resorts is known for,” said MGM CEO and President Bill Hornbuckle, speaking at November’s event.

MGM’s MVP Rewards program also offers 25% off spa and salon treatment, 10% off hotel bookings, 10% off restaurants, and 15% off wedding bookings at several of its Las Vegas resorts.

Gambling bonuses, such as those at MGM’s U.S. online sports betting operations, are not included in the rewards programs.
