Wynn Resorts’ Las Vegas Loop Station on Track for 2024 Opening

Spread the Word:

The Boring Company’s Vegas Loop, an innovative underground transportation system that is the brainchild of world’s richest man Elon Musk, is set to expand its reach with a new station at the Wynn Las Vegas resort.

A 2,325-foot road tunnel, which connects the resort to the Las Vegas Convention Center, is nearing completion, Wynn announced this week. Full operations are expected to commence in early 2024. It expands on the already operational 1.7 mile tunnel network, with both part of a wider plan for full service around the Las Vegas area.

“The tunnel is the latest enhancement in Wynn’s continued commitment to offering eco-friendly meetings and conventions in Las Vegas,” a resort spokesperson said, as reported by KNTV Las Vegas.

Construction Landmarks

The Vegas Loop is designed to provide a quick, eco-friendly transportation alternative for the some 30 million people that visit Las Vegas each year, as well as the 650,000 local populace.

Traveling from the Wynn Resort to the convention center will take approximately one minute, significantly reducing the time spent in traffic. The Las Vegas Strip specifically is well-known for traffic problems, occasionally exacerbated by reckless driving.

The construction of the Wynn Las Vegas Loop Station marks a milestone for the Boring Company in a technical sense, as well as a literal one.

The company’s boring machine, known as Prufrock-2, was retrieved without the use of a crane, a first for a commercial project.

This method resulted in a more cost-effective and expedited retrieval of the machine, minimizing the impact on the nearby Wynn Golf Club.

The project has so far cost $52.5 million, with estimates of anywhere between $3 million and $5 million per mile of construction.

Expanding Loops

Wynn isn’t the only casino resort in Las Vegas that will be served by the Vegas Loop. The tunnel system, which opened its first public leg in July 2022, is set to expand significantly over the coming years.

Clark County officials approved plans in May to add 18 new stations and about 25 miles of tunnels to the system, which are just part of the full plan.

At peak capacity, the loop system should be able to move more than 50,000 passengers an hour, according to CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), Steve Hill.

The Loop is just one of a number of massive investment projects on the Strip over the next year that Hill will be heavily involved in orchestrating. That includes the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix in November and Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in February 2024.

The LVCVA head recently was the beneficiary of a 7.5% salary increase and 40% bonus for his efforts.

Free Rides

As the Vegas Loop continues to expand, it’s expected to transform transportation in Las Vegas.

The system offers a free ride from resorts to the convention center as part of the Boring Company’s agreement with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

However, rides outside the convention space will incur a fee.

As of March 15, more than a million passengers had traveled on the Loop, indicating a strong demand for the project’s transport solution.

Boring Company plans complete a full loop of Las Vegas with 69 stations, including all along the Strip, downtown, Allegiant Stadium, and other places.
