Where before they had to keep moving constantly along a waterway, the rule change meant that casinos could become permanently moored. Gambling Taxes in Illinois

Casino gambling in Illinois is tightly regulated by the Illinois Gaming Board. They ensure that all casino games are fair across the state, but that also covers the way that taxes are enforced.

The Illinois tax rate on gambling winnings is around 4.95%. However, it’s important to note that you can’t usually write off gambling losses when you complete your tax return. That’s an important difference with some other states.

So, whether you’re playing casino games, or betting at Illinois online sportsbooks, you’ll need to keep accurate records. Don’t forget that casinos will withhold larger winnings too for federal tax if you win over $600 (or 300x your stake). That applies when playing the Illinois State Lottery.
