Online gambling has been legal in New Jersey since the state’s first NJ online casinos launched in November 2013, and it is now a leader in the legal US market. With over two dozen legal and regulated NJ online gambling sites currently live in the state, and only more coming in 2021, there are hundreds of options to gamble online. This list includes NJ online casinos – complete with slot machines, video poker, and table games – online poker sites, and digital sportsbooks.
With such an array of real money online gambling options to choose from, it can be time-consuming and confusing selecting a site that’s right for you. Fortunately, we have done the hard work for you. This page provides you with everything you need to know about online gambling in New Jersey. From reviews of the best online gambling websites and the legalities of online gaming, to help in choosing a safe and legitimate site, we’ve got you covered.
Yes, online gambling is legal in New Jersey. This includes online casino gambling, poker, sports betting, horse race betting, and daily fantasy sports (DFS).
A law was passed in February 2013 which allowed casinos in Atlantic City to partner with online operators to offer NJ online casinos and poker to residents. In 2017, another bill legalizing DFS was passed. The following year after the US Supreme Court ruled PASPA unconstitutional, Governor Phil Murphy signed Assembly Bill 4111 into law, which saw the legalization of sports betting in NJ. This included digital sports betting and the first online sportsbooks launched in August that year.
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) regulates all the casinos in Atlantic City and is also responsible for authorizing and regulating all online gambling sites. It is worth noting that while all forms of online gambling are legal in New Jersey, this is only true for the sites that have been approved and are regulated by the NJDGE. Gambling at an off-shore site is illegal from inside the borders of the state.
Age restrictions too apply to online gambling. For NJ online casinos, poker rooms, and sportsbooks, the legal gambling age is 21. For DFS and horse race betting, you can place legal wagers online at the age of 18. Additionally, you must be physically located in the state of NJ to have access to any of their regulated sites.
As only gambling websites regulated and licensed by the NJDGE are legal, it is important to steer clear of offshore gambling sites. These are any websites that may accept players from the US, but they are run by offshore operators located overseas. Aside from being illegal, when playing on these sites the games may not be fair and your money may not be safe. However, with licensed NJ online casinos, sportsbooks, and poker rooms, all casino games and operators are regulated to ensure you have a safe and fair online gambling experience.
To help to identify legal, licensed, and regulated online sites from unsafe offshore sites here is a complete list of all real money NJ online casinos, sportsbooks, and poker sites that have been approved and are currently available in the state.

New Jersey has nine commercial casinos, which are all confined to the Atlantic City area. These casinos are: Bally’s Casino, The Borgata, Caesars Casino, Golden Nugget Online Casino, Harrah’s Casino, Ocean Casino, Resorts Casino, Hard Rock Casino, and Tropicana. Most of these gambling establishments boast at least 2,000 slots, as well as a variety of classic table games, such as blackjack, roulette, and craps.
Atlantic City casinos are allowed to operate multiple NJ online casino sites. As of May 2019, the NJ online casino market consists of the following platforms: 888 US, Betfair, Borgata Online, Caesars Casino Online, Golden Nugget, Harrah’s Online Casino, Mohegan Sun Online, Pala Online, PartyCasino, PokerStars NJ Casino, Resorts Online Casino, SugarHouse Casino, Tropicana Online, Unibet, and Virgin Online Casino.
There are six high-profile poker rooms in New Jersey. All of them are located in Atlantic City. The largest two are operated by Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa (85 tables) and Harrah’s Atlantic City (40 tables), while the remaining four are run by Bally’s (20 tables), Tropicana (18 tables), Golden Nugget (10 tables), and Ocean Resort Casino (8 tables). Cash-game action is mostly about Omaha and Hold’em, but the bigger venues also occasionally offer Stud and mixed games. Tournaments are available on a daily basis and tend to stick to the No-Limit Hold’em format.
NJ has a regulated online poker market. Local players have access to multiple poker platforms, such as WSOP, 888, PartyPoker, PokerStars, Borgata Poker, PlayMGM, and Pala Poker. The Garden State has a shared liquidity agreement with Delaware and Nevada, which means that local poker enthusiasts are free to test their skills against out-of-state competition.
Real money online poker is also legal in New Jersey which launched in November 2013, making it the third state to offer legal online poker after Nevada and Delaware. Seven online poker rooms are currently active. However, the state has four different poker networks which some of the sites share:
When playing poker online, there are three main options – cash games, sit-and-go events, and tournaments – and each of the four poker networks will offer slightly different options and schedules to players. The All-American Poker Network (AAPN) shares its network with Nevada and Delaware and therefore has the widest selection of cash games and tournament play. Plus, when playing on sites using this network you can play inter-state poker.
On the other hand, Pala Poker is the smallest network, not sharing traffic with any other operator, and primarily operates at night only, when all other sites run 24 hours every day.
Several poker variations can be found at NJ online poker rooms:
When it comes to playing online poker there are seven NJ poker websites that have been approved by the NJDGE, as shown in the table below. This is more live real money poker sites than any other US state. Some of these sites share the same online poker network to offer players more game choices, tables, bigger tournaments, and larger guarantees.

Gamblers were also free to bet on horse races at off-track facilities located in Bayonne, Clementon, Egg Harbor, Fords, Hillsborough, and Toms River. Horse racing enthusiasts were also able to place bets online using the 4NJBet platform.
Traditional sports betting was legalized in June 2018, one month after the Supreme Court struck down the federal PASPA ban on this form of gambling. The new regulations permitted both racetracks and Atlantic City casinos to open brick and mortar sportsbooks. As of May 2019, there are nine sportsbooks operating within the borders of NJ: Borgata Race & Sports Bar (Borgata, IGT), Resorts Sports Book (Resorts, William Hill), Monmouth Park Sports Book (Monmouth Park, William Hill), William Hill Sportsbook (Ocean Resort, William Hill), FanDuel Sportsbook (Meadowlands, BetFair/FanDuel), The Book (Harrah’s, SG), The Sportsbook (Golden Nugget, SBTech), Wild Wild West Sportsbook (Bally’s, SG), and William Hill Sportsbook at Tropicana (Tropicana, William Hill).
